The phasing out of Economic and Management Sciences (EMS) in intermediate phase has had a negative
influence on the performance of learners in the senior phase and the Further Education and Training (FET)
band. There is, therefore, an urgent need to engage with this issue, but there is dearth of information related to
the methods of teaching EMS in the senior phase. This necessitated our study that is aimed at determining
methods that could be used to implement successfully the curriculum of EMS in the senior phase. We adopted a
qualitative research approach. The population of the study consisted of circuit manager, teachers, curriculum
advisor and principals, selected using a purposive sampling method. Data was collected through semi-structured
face-to-face interviews. We found that the recommended teaching strategies should incorporate the use of non
conventional methods that include demonstration, instructional media, co-operation, group discussion,
brainstorming, and a problem-based method depending on the topic.
