Abstract

This systematic review explores the role of ChatGPT in higher education, specifically its impact on students’ learning. The study evaluates ChatGPT’s ability to provide accurate and helpful responses and its implications for academic integrity. Using PRISMA guidelines, 30 peer-reviewed articles published between 2022 and 2024 were analysed. Findings indicate that ChatGPT provides a convenient and adaptable learning resource, promoting student engagement and conceptual understanding. However, ethical concerns, including plagiarism and over-reliance on artificial intelligence (AI), were noted. The study highlights the need for higher education institutions to develop strategies for the ethical and effective integration of ChatGPT, ensuring it enhances rather than undermines academic integrity. Further research is recommended to explore the broader implications and potential ethical issues associated with AI tools in education.
